Block Paved Driveway Project in Bordon Hampshire
Yew Tree Landscapes recently completed this block paved driveway in Bordon, to replace the old one.
Our superb block paving services have been recommended to this customer by our other happy customer.
The area was completely dug out to a depth of 9-10 inches. As registered waste carriers, we took away and disposed of all the soil & rubble, without a need of having any unsightly skips in the garden, which are always in the way. Thanks to our waste carrier’s licence the soil which we dig out while preparing the surface for any project before we lay the paving, gets always taken away as it is being dugout.
This driveway required a large step, which we have managed to create by using bullnose high rise kerb edging, lifted 2 old circular manhole covers and then replacing with recessed manhole covers.
We have decided to use recessed manhole covers to be able to lay the block paving inside. As these covers have handles, access to the drainage can still be gained.
The outer edging of this block paved driveway was laid on a bed of wet mix concrete to stop the inner blocks from moving. 5-6 inches of scalpings got spread over the area and compacted to form a solid base. Next came a weed-suppressing membrane, sharp sand spread and rake levelled over the membrane. Then we compacted everything and rake levelled again, in preparation for a final layer of sharp sand, which was spread over the area and screeded to the correct levels.
Paving blocks can be laid in various patterns, for example:
- straight herringbone,
- 45-degree herringbone,
- stretcher bond,
but for this particular project, we aimed to achieve a basket weave effect.
The new driveway is a stunning charcoal block paved surface (used blocks: marshalls driveline 50 charcoal) which complements the property, making it look more inviting.
As a part of this project, we also erected a 4ft high close board fence with concrete slotted posts and concrete gravel boards. To stop water getting into the end grain of the boards, enhance the look and extend the life of the fence, we finished it off with counter & capping rails along the top.
